How to Add Subtitles to Video: SRT and VTT Guide

Subtitles improve accessibility and reach wider audiences.

Step 1: Transcribe

Listen and write down what's said. Note start/end times. Keep to 1-2 lines, max 42 chars per line.

Step 2: Create File

1. Open SRT Editor or VTT Editor.
2. Click "New File".
3. Add cues with text and timing.

Step 3: Sync

Play video alongside subtitle file. Adjust times.

Step 4: Add to Platform

• YouTube: Upload SRT via Studio
• HTML5: Use VTT with track element
• VLC: Same folder, same filename

Best Practices

• 1-2 lines max per subtitle
• 100ms gap between cues
• At least 1.5 seconds display time
